Call For Submissions: Batavia High School Relic Alumni Art Show
Art is the product of the whole mind...
it pushes culture forward... it celebrates... it reveals... it protests...
it is the heart and soul of human existence.
Relic is a professional showcase celebrating the power of art-- objects, insights, tangible memories.
The theme and criteria for Relic will change each year. This year, we are curating an Alumni Art Show for the brand new Batavia Fine Arts Centre and the Re-dedication Ceremony in October. This is a great opportunity to showcase your work. Any BHS alumni artist is encouraged to submit post high school artwork for this show.
Important: Digital Submissions due: September 1st, 2011

Scenes from the Art of the Spoken Word Tent at Art in Your Eye
Our "Spoken Word" tent was a success despite the unpleasant weather (though for one of the authors, the unpleasant weather worked out quite well).
Barbara Perry writes a poem for Ellie
Donna Lathem reads ghost stories - and somehow manages to get thunder, on cue!
Katie Phillips reads from her book "Driving Montana, Alone"

There's a lot going on this weekend in Batavia!
Shakespeare on Clark: Two performances - Friday night and Saturday night - both at 7 PM. Bring your lawn chair and picnic dinners and relax on Clark Island as you enjoy the fast paced and thoroughly enjoyable performance of "The Merry Wives of Windsor".
Art In Your Eye: Batavia's Fine Arts show starts at 10 AM Saturday. This year the Batavia Arts Council will be hosting a special tent: "The Art of Spoken Words" - we'll be on the Plaza featuring poet Barbara Perry of “Fresh-Squeezed Poetry” She will create on-the-spot personal poems from prompts from the festival attendees. In addition, the booth will feature poetry and book readings from local poets and authors. For more information, visit the Art In Your Eye website.
Peep Show: Come see group of artists exploring the organ of sight. It's at 5 PM at Limestone Coffee & Tea - 15 E. Wilson, Batavia, IL
The Individual and the Swarm: Photographer, Jim Kirkhoff, and fiber installation artist Kari Kraus join together to put on a unique showcase of their work. Kirkhoff's stark photography focuses on the complexities of urban/suburban life while studying both the individual and the masses. His work is contrasted by Kraus's colorful and delicate fabric installations based off of swarm intelligence and other scientific theories. This show offers an opposing and complimentarily view of art and various means of expression. 6 PM at Water Street Studios, 160 S Water St, Batavia, IL
